Built for a private installation at the Stewart Loft in Bushwick, Brooklyn, USA
Artist: Jane Sangerman
Artist Assistant: Aiden McGorry
This project is the physical embodiment of Sangerman's two-dimensional mixed-media paintings addressing the concept of “above and below.” This work responds to the diametrically opposed spaces hinged on verticality. The upper portion explores the metaphysical, the imaginary, divine, dreamworld in which to search for answers. The middle segment explores the physical realm, the “close up”, man-made, found objects, within the world crumbling before us. The bottom section features a new territory of metal sculptures which juxtapose rusted machinery with bright spray paint. Each section includes elements that seem to subvert their respective spatial natures.
